Redwood

Natural Beauty
The richness of redwood's color make it a perfect choice for interior finishing. The wide range of textures, colors and patterns enable it to contrast and blend easily with many other types of materials. The do-it-yourself homeowner will appreciate redwood's light weight and ease of handling as well as its remarkable strength.
The Redwood Advantage
The advantages of using redwood for exterior applications have been known for many years. The inherent natural chemicals it contains gives redwood a unique resistance to weather and insects causing decay. This makes it a perfect choice for decks, fences and shelters. Some of redwood's other characteristics include its resistance to shrinking, warping, checking and its ability to hold a variety of finishes due to its dimensional stability. In Kansas City's climate, redwood has shown to last 15% to 20% longer than cedar.
Grades
There are many grades of redwood available for virtually any building application. You can be assured that we at American Cedar & Redwood will supply you with the appropriate grade, pattern and finish that will give you the best outcome at the most economical price. All redwood breaks down into two basic categories: architectural and garden. Although we do offer mixed grain redwood (including the white sapwood), we do not stock any mixed grain, as our experience has shown that sapwood in the Kansas City climate tends to deteriorate quickly and not be as dimensionally stable.
Architectural
Currently we offer four different architectural grades: Clear All Heart, Clear, Heart Clear, Heart B and B Grade, all of which are sold kiln dried (preshrunk and stress-free) for projects where only the highest quality will suffice. No other wood equals these finish grades in beauty and dimensional stability. They are the choice grades for siding, paneling, trim and cabinetry where attractiveness and tight joinery are desired. Although we offer all grades, we limit our stock to Clear All Heart and Heart B.
Clear All Heart
Very high quality grade with same characteristics as Clear but is entirely heartwood.
Normally sold as Certified Kiln Dried (also available unseasoned). Available surfaced.
Uses: siding, paneling, trim, cabinetry, molding, fascia, soffits, millwork; also fine
decks, rails and garden structures.
Heart B
A tight-knotted heartwood grade resistant to insects and decay. It is suitable for
high quality construction without waste. Dried below 19%. Durable grade
available surfaced or rough. Most commonly used for furniture, high quality decking, deck handrail, trim and woodworking stock. Grade allows for 1" worth of knots in every 12' of board.

Garden
Construction Heart
A heartwood grade containing knots of varying sizes and other slight imperfections, this is the highest quality garden grade. All of the 2x4 and 2x6 boards we carry are dried below 19% to ensure stability and avoid any splitting. This highly useful grade can be ordered surfaced or rough from 2x2 all the way up to 8x8.
All of our 1" boards are S1S2E ( Smooth 1 Side 2 Edges ); this means that one face of the board has a rough face. This allows for different options when matching existing redwood or choices for aesthetic purposes. We stock 1x4, 1x6, 1x8, 1x10 and 1x12 up to 20' in length. Construction Heart remains our most commonly sold redwood grade; with the combination of quality and reasonable cost, redwood remains a natural and beautiful choice.
